Music was always an important component of the wedding for us, so we wanted to ensure that we got it right. We were confident the group was going to be good, based on the CVs on your website, but they really exceeded our expectations. Never have I been at a wedding where the dance floor was full the whole evening – even from before we had expected the dancing to kick off! As you had said, they picked the mood perfectly, did not play one song that people (of all ages) didn’t respond well to, and Jo’s performance was just stunning. I really can’t speak highly enough of the band. I’ve had so much positive feedback from the guests. I think a large part of the success of our reception was the music, which everyone could enjoy regardless of age and regardless of whether they were on the dance floor or just sitting and appreciating it.

Planning an event in another state is difficult, particularly without access to suppliers you are used to dealing with. I came across SJC via Google Search, and was very impressed from the start by the professionalism of the website communications and ease of obtaining a quote quickly. We have just returned from our glorious honeymoon and are enjoying reflecting on our wedding day. In particular the fabulous band!! We were thrilled with the music – lead vocalist was just gorgeous and the saxophonist was outstanding! I play saxophone myself and it was such a treat listening to such talent. We were really happy with the atmosphere that was created throughout the night and the volume was absolutely perfect. We had a few elderly guests at our reception and we were so happy that they all felt so comfortable. All of our song request were played and it was such a memorable experience dancing with my dad to “Georgia on My Mind” which was performed so beautifully.
I was also extremely impressed with the attentiveness of the band – it was beyond their scheduled playing time when I threw my wedding bouquet and seamlessly, they starting playing, “All the Single Ladies” – it was perfect!! We were happy with the iPod song choices they played between sets and I was very impressed with how accommodating they were to play our Bridal Waltz from our iPod. We received multiple compliments throughout the evening from our guests who were highly impressed with the band’s musical talents, volume and pace of the evening – it was very hard to get people off the dance floor!! Thank you all very much for making our wedding night extra special and there are many of our guests (and ourselves!) who will be using you again!!

First, they had to move from the ceremony area to the cocktail party area. Then when the guests all moved outdoors, they willingly obliged and moved with the party. The Jazz Dinner Dance is one of St Paul’s Colleges most prized and anticipated events in their calendar year. As the name of the event suggests, this meant we needed a Jazz band. Saying this though, there was quite a strict criteria of qualities that we needed the band to have in order for the night to run smoothly so the search for this ‘perfect’ band had become quite stressful. Sydney Jazz Collective matched these needs perfectly by being: – Able to fit our budget as you provided the best quality service for the best price – Easy to communicate with, Tom Abbott was a good mix of professional and casual in all communication, listened to all our needs and always did what he said he was going to do – Flexible on the night to play around dances and other entertainment and play for the extra hour that we ended up needing at the end of the night because everyone was loving the music so much – Able to follow the vibe of the crowd and notice when to move from the more formal jazz music to the dancey classics – Able to set up and perform in an organised manner without needing to badger us for information. Overall, the band was so easy to work with. We asked the Sydney Jazz Collective to play at our engagement party in Sydney, and they were so fantastic, that we asked them if they would consider playing for us again at our farm wedding on the East Coast of NSW. Tom was very professional to communicate with and the band fitted seamlessly into the events of the day. You’d only have just noticed their arrival and moments later relaxed jazz sounds filled the garden as our guests helped themselves to champagne. They knew how to pick the mood of the crowd, whether it was to fill the gaps between conversation or to get the party moving with some more well known contemporary grooves to fill the dance floor as the night got going. We also asked them to play live the song for our first dance – Angus & Julia Stone’s “The Wedding Song”. We had not heard their rendition before we took to the dance floor and were bowled over by how soulful and rich it sounded, and later, all the glowing comments from our guests indicate that we weren’t the only two impressed. We are definitely going to recommend you to our friends.

We had 65 guests for dinner to celebrate my 52nd birthday. I found the band to have a very professional approach and a great sound. It was very obvious they had a wealth of experience in keeping up a very good supply of music appropriate to the occasion. The choice of music had many of the guests off their chairs and up on the dance floor, thus contributing to the sense of occasion. The lead singer did a marvellous job delivering the lyrics to different styles of music and impressed everyone at the function. A special mention also to the keyboard player, saxophonist and drummer for their great musicianship. All in all it was a delight to have them at the house performing and entertaining the guests. Having grown up playing multiple musical instruments from a young age, music has always been an important part of my life and due to this, was going to be an important part of our wedding. From the moment I saw the Sydney Jazz Collective website, I knew they were the band for our wedding. They came as a recommendation from the restaurant where we were getting married and were the only band we looked at in the end. We didn’t need to look anywhere else and they were just perfect. There is nothing I could fault, from the website with the live recordings, to the communication with the band and the organisation for the day. They were very professional and friendly, and so easy to deal with. I didn’t feel the need to guide them with what songs we wanted them to play, they just seemed to know exactly what we wanted and helped set the atmosphere that we wanted for our wedding. We had so much wonderful feedback from our guests of how fantastic the band was. The only complaint we had was that as Sydney had had the first sunny day in over a month, our guests were torn between being outside on the balcony lapping up the sunshine with the incredible view, or being inside dancing away to the band. I have no hesitation in recommending the Sydney Jazz Collective, and can’t thank them enough for bringing that extra special something to our special day.

They were so wonderful and professional and played the most amazing background jazz after the ceremony; the guests were captivated by the magnificent instrumental jazz. The music they played for the specific songs we chose for our special moments was perfect; it made the cake-cutting and the first dance so special! All the other music was just so much fun and they were absolutely on-task with reading the room. I couldn’t stop dancing and singing along.
